Not Only News Service: In a unique initiative blending environmental awareness with government welfare programs, the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Tehatta, Ananya Singh, IAS, recently visited Jitpur Muslimpara under the Raghunathpur Gram Panchayat in Tehatta-1 Block, Nadia district. During the ongoing Awas Yojana survey, SDO Singh distributed 120-micron tissue paper bags to villagers and raised awareness about the harmful effects of using plastic bags.

This marked the first instance where such eco-friendly bags were handed out during the Awas Yojana survey, a government scheme aimed at providing affordable housing to beneficiaries. Singh, along with Tehatta-1 Block Development Officer (BDO), Sanjib Sen, spoke to the villagers about the importance of adopting sustainable alternatives to reduce environmental pollution. She encouraged them to avoid plastic bags, which are notorious for contributing to pollution and long-term environmental damage.

The villagers, pleased with the interaction, appreciated the effort by the district administration. Many expressed gratitude for both the eco-friendly bags and the important message delivered by the SDO. “We are thankful to the SDO for not only supporting us through the Awas Yojana but also for educating us on protecting our environment,” one villager remarked.

As the Awas Yojana survey continues across the Tehatta Sub-division, the initiative has sparked hope that it will inspire broader environmental consciousness among other communities in the region.
