Born on December 28, 1937, in Navsari, Gujarat, Tata was the great-grandson of Jamsetji Tata, the founder of the Tata Group. Under his leadership, the Tata conglomerate reached unprecedented heights.

Taking charge in 1991, a pivotal time marked by India’s economic liberalization, Tata led the group for over two decades, diversifying into sectors like IT, steel, automobiles, and hospitality. One of his signature achievements was the introduction of the Tata Nano in 2008, an affordable car aimed at making vehicle ownership accessible to the masses. He also spearheaded key international acquisitions, including Tetley, Jaguar Land Rover, and Corus, marking Tata’s global expansion.

Apart from his remarkable business contributions, Ratan Tata was known for his philanthropic efforts. Through the Tata Trusts, which control a majority of the group’s shares, he made significant contributions to healthcare, education, and rural development in India. He was honored with the Padma Bhushan in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008 for his immense contributions to Indian industry and society.
